KEY FEATURES

Every Death Makes Your Next Run Stronger

Dead Cells invented its own genre label because nothing else fit. Motion Twin calls it a “roguevania,” fusing the permanent progression and interconnected map design of a Metroidvania with the run-based structure, procedural generation, and permadeath of a roguelite. You play a failed alchemic experiment possessing corpses to fight through a sprawling, ever-changing castle, with no checkpoints between you and the end.

This is a game built entirely around feel: every swing has weight, every dodge-roll has readable invincibility frames, and the whole thing runs at a locked 60 FPS. Death sends you back to the start, but cells harvested from fallen enemies unlock new weapons, skills, and mutations permanently, so every failed run makes the next one materially stronger.

Combat Built on Precision, Not Luck

150+ Weapons, Skills & Mutations: Build across three scaling colors: Brutality for aggressive melee, Tactics for ranged and turrets, and Survival for heavy defense.

Locked 60 FPS: Fight with animation and hit-feedback precise enough that every death is legible, not random.

The Panic Roll: Dodge out of danger with a responsive, readable invincibility-frame roll.

Deep Build Synergies: Combine swords, bows, whips, shields, grenades, turrets, and summons into builds that emerge from what each run gives you.

Permanent Progress, Even When You Die

Permadeath With Persistence: Lose a run entirely, but keep the weapons, skills, and mutations you’ve unlocked forever.

Branching Paths: Unlock permanent traversal runes that open entirely new routes through the island, Metroidvania-style.

Boss Stem Cells: Raise the difficulty ceiling once you’ve beaten the game and want a harder run.

121 Steam Achievements: Work toward a deep achievement list built around the game’s hardest challenges.

Years of Free Content, Included at No Extra Cost

Rise of the Giant: Get this free expansion’s new biomes, bosses, weapons, and enemies included with your purchase.

Every Free Update Since Launch: Receive the full run of post-launch content Motion Twin and Evil Empire have shipped since 2018.

Hand-Animated Pixel Art: Explore a world rendered from 3D models into unusually fluid pixel sprites.

Full Controller Support: Play with a gamepad or with keyboard and mouse, both fully supported.
